Resting Buddha Sandlewood Scented Candle

Resting Buddha Sandlewood Scented Candle

One of my favorite quotes is a quote of a quote in Transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau’s Walden, a writing he found on the bathtub of King Tchingthang, which Thoreau describes, ” ‘Renew thyself completely each day; do it again, and again, and forever again.’ I can understand that. Morning brings back the heroic ages.” I agree, to wake up early, enjoy the dawn, and have a productive morning is some of my finest time. And there are little things that bring the beauty and productivity into fruition, little things that I don’t take lightly - like the encompassing power of something as simple as a candle.

Having the perfect scent can completely vitalize my day, and studies have proven this. It is now known that certain scents physiologically help create moods, citrus scents rejuvenate and create energy, lavender scents are calming, and so forth. And then there’s the primordial magic of the flickering flame, and poetry in certain scent combinations.

The Thai Market candle completely invigorates my morning, probably due to the citrus element: lemongrass. The candle also contains the scents of sweet litchee, basil, aromatic cardamom, and creamy coconut milk. This combination is like a master recipe - a work of art. The soothing coconut balances with the crisp lemongrass and the other scents add a touch of enchantment. They conjure up Asian secrets and always leave me inspired. Citrus is also known to leave a clean feeling, partly because some citrus fruits like lemon are used as cleaning items. The energy, the crisp cleanliness, perfect for tidying up in the morning.

When the work is done, it leaves me inspired, I’m more likely to play music or write or do something I really enjoy with this little touch. It’s these little things that can really enhance a day and shouldn’t be taken for granted. Your environment is important to your life, and a clean, aesthetically pleasing one will surely give you the happiness and energy to accomplish more than you normally would. So find a scent that really appeals to you, and if the scents of the Thai Market candle appeal to you, I’d highly recommend trying it out.

Scented candles add to the ambiance of any room in your home. Even if you prefer unscented candles, you can color coordinate them with your décor. Scented candles give off a scent even when they are not lit. Many people prefer to use them simply as a decoration while many others do burn them for aromatherapy and simply because the like the scent. Scented pillar candles can be round or square and come in many various sizes.

You can use several different sizes of scented pillar candles to make an exquisite display on your table, coffee table or mantle. If you have several pillar candles, you can arrange them by height. Place the tallest scented candle in the middle and arrange the others around it. You can have both round and square candles in the one centrepiece, but most people like to use candles of the same shape. You can also have different colors or have all the candles the same color. Even though most candles are not expensive, there are many places where you can buy discount candles and save even more money.

Buying pillar candles at discount prices allows you to buy more than you originally intended or gives you extra money for a beautiful candle holder. There are many different kinds of candle holders you can have for pillar candles, but the usual one for a table is a plate type of holder. This allow you to place several scented pillar candles together to achieve an elegant effect. You can also decorate a scented pillar candle with ribbon or arrange flowers around the bottom of the candles, if you have them on a plate. Not only can you tie a ribbon around a square pillar candle, but you can have several candles tied together in a display.

Uses for modern day candles are only restricted by one’s own imagination. But decorating with candles and candle holders can have its pitfalls, too. To help you avoid these decorating “faux pas”, the following tips will get you started on the road to becoming a candle aficionado.

1. If you like grouping your candles, remember to match the scents of all the candles to avoid creating a combined scent that is either too strong or unpleasant.

2. Consider mixing like-scented candles with unscented candles in your grouping to help control the overall strength of the scent.

3. Never use scented candles on a dinner table. The scent of the candles will compete with and interfere with the sumptuous aroma of the meal. Researchers have found that the aromatic smell of food actually is one of the most important elements of the dining experience.

4. Candles on a dining room table should always be smokeless. Be sure to trim the candle wick if it exceeds ¼ ” to reduce the potential of unwanted smoke.

5. Burning a scented candle in your bathroom, or “powder” room, will eliminate unpleasant odors. This is a nice touch for your next party or gathering of special friends.

6. Always burn your candles in a secure, fireproof holder made especially for candles. Also, ensure that there are no paper products or hand towels in close proximity to the candle’s flame. Using a tall candleholder with a shorter candle is just plain smart and keeps the flame away from flammable items.

7. If the candle holder is an open vessel, like a candle stick, always opt for dripless candles. Who wants a puddle of wax on your nice table linens?

8. When placing lower-flamed candles around a table, make sure it is done in such a pattern that a person’s shirt sleeve or clothing cannot pass through or over the flame.

9. Don’t place your candles too close to flower arrangements. Candles have been known to wilt or ruin flowers if the flame overheats their petals.

Remember - always practice safe candle burning! The most important aspect of using and enjoying your candles is to never leave them burning unattended, or where a child could be drawn to the candle and potentially be burned.

Keep it safe and enjoy the magical benefits of decorating your home with candles!

Earth Toned Decorative Candle

Earth Toned Decorative Candle

Candles have been used in home settings for centuries. Originally used for illumination, they were very utilitarian in function, with no thought of appearance or scent. But with electricity becoming commonplace, the candles role began to change.

Candles became more decorative and were recognized for their ability to achieve a certain ambiance, or mood, in any room. Candles went from being exclusively for tabletop settings to more designer-oriented sconces and multi-candle wall displays. But for the traditionalist, a formal dinner table is still not complete without at least a couple of tall tapered candles.

Scented Candles

Scented candles are just wonderful for decorating your home. Most are offered in attractive styles and decorative shapes, making them easy and fun to use around the house. Scented candles, especially the ones made rich with scented oils, emit their aromatic fragrance whether lit or not.

Placing scented pillar candles or jar candles in hallways, bathrooms and even kitchens can help freshen the air and eliminate unwanted odors. These types of candles are offered in a myriad of fragrances, sizes and shapes to meet every candle lovers needs.

Dinner Candles

Long tapered candles on a dining room table are classic. However, the newest candle displays have taken a different twist. A table decorated with a collection of small votives in matching holders can be quite a stunning addition to the dinner table. Try the same idea with an assorted mix of candle containers for a more eclectic look.

Having a dinner party?

Candle Holders that also function as place card holders are available and allow you to dazzle your guests with your creativity. And whether your preference is traditional tapered candles or a grouping of votives, either will cast a special glow over the dinner table at your next party or festive event.

Other Decorative Candles

There is a multitude of specialty candles and candle holders on the market. Some are very creative with designs in the shapes of your favorite animals, others with more modern or abstract designs. Whatever your taste in candles, you can almost be assured that a candle has been designed with your decorating tastes in mind.

Take a suitable wick for the mold. Suspend the wick in the center of the mold. In a pot dissolve stearic acid and color dye, then heat the wax. When the temperature reaches 130C degrees the paraffin starts to melt. When the temperature reaches 190C degrees combine the stearic mixture with paraffin. Stir and blend them well at the maintained temperature of 190 degrees celsius. Pour the mixture in the mold and let it be cooled. When it cools remove it from the mold. And your candle is ready.  Now just place the finished candle into the candle holder of your choice.

Paraffin Wax is the main constituent of candles and is melted within a melting system. Use a special thermometer, which has a covering scale of 38C-177C, called a Candy Thermometer, and is used to measure the temperature of wax. Scales measure the amount of water and wax. Ladle and Spoons are used for stirring and pouring wax. There are a variety of wicks available for different sizes and types of candles. Nowadays wicks are manufactured after a chemical treatment. It helps wicks to burn longer and brighter. Wax is naturally soft, so stearic acid is used to provide solidity to the candle. It also helps the candle to shrink so that candle will release from the mold more easily. Color dyes are used to provide colors in the candle. Molds come in different shapes and sizes which allow the manufacturer to choose the specific one they want. Now just place the finished candle into the candle holder of your choice.

Add Some Sizzle to your Home Decor

Ivory Metal & Glass Candle HolderIs your home décor lacking that extra zing that spells the difference between comfortable and vibrant or between comfortable and tranquil? Candles might be just the polish your décor needs. Take advantage of the sparkling colors, rich textures, and fresh scents of candles without draining your decorating budget.

Some candles are best unadorned, but candleholders  do offer an additional opportunity to highlight their presence and beauty. You don’t have to burn the candles; you can use them as objects d’art, incorporating them into displays, floral arrangements and centerpieces-alone as an accent piece, or in a grouping as a focal point.

Typical candles no longer exist-they belong to a bygone era. Tapers gave way to thick and varied heights long ago. Today, you’ll find square candles, heart-shaped candles, fruit and vegetable candles, gingerbread candles, floral candles, Christmas tree and ornament candles, and candles with artistic free-flowing shapes. Within that variety of shapes, you’ll find an endless array of adornments, such as beads and glitter, straw, botanicals embedded in the wax, still life scenes, etc.

Today’s candles come in a wide variety of hues and shades, and many add the dimension of shape and texture to their composition. Marbled, frosted, and sculptured candles are widely available in a selection of sizes, shapes and prices-ranging from tealights or votives to thick, oversized candles.

What is a Tealight?

lanternsIf you’re unfamiliar with the world of candles and candle accessories, you might not know what a tealight is. And even if you have a general idea, you might not know the finer details. To that end, you might not be able to distinguish a votive from a tealight from any other specific subset of candle. To eliminate some of this confusion, a tealight can be understood as any candle that is very small and contained within a metal frame.

Typically, the wax is intended to completely melt, but because that hot wax is contained within the metal, the candle can continue to burn for hours after the wax is melted. Tealights are typically associated with jack-o-lanterns, as they are often used to light up these fun and festive gourds. Tealights can also be used to illuminate tealight lanterns, which can be used to decorate your outdoor patio as well as provide some low lighting.
