Japanese have used it to spot movements on a trend
A Harami is a candlestick indicator which marks the reversal or sidewise movement of an existing trend. The Japanese word Harami means pregnant and the indicator is sometime known as a pregnant candle. Harami candles are found on daily charts and may be found both at the end of bullish and bearish trends. They are easy to identify and mostly favour swing traders.
The Harami pattern is made up of two candlesticks. The first has a large body and the second a small body totally encompassed by the first. There are four possible combinations: white/white, white/black, black/white and black/black. Whether a bullish reversal or bearish reversal pattern, all harami look the same. Their bullish or bearish nature depends on the preceding trend. Harami are considered potential bearish reversals after an advance, and potential bullish reversals after a decline. No matter what the colour of the first candlestick, the smaller the body of the second candlestick, the more likely the reversal. If the small candlestick is a Doji, the chances of a reversal increase.
Harami candlesticks are not considered among the most reliable indicators. But they are useful…

Shedding light on domestic violence
Candles to remind public of tragic issue
By Bev Davis
Register-Herald Senior Editor
During the month of October, agencies who work with victims of domestic violence will sponsor a number of awareness campaigns. Stories will be written, and statistics that show a continuing rise in domestic violence nationwide will be cited.
All of those efforts will be intended to create a greater awareness of issues related to domestic violence and to highlight the prevention and support efforts available for victims and their families.
The West Virginia Coalition Against Domestic Violence hopes a single purple candle light will carry a powerful but silent message.
The coalition and domestic violence agencies such as the Women’s Resource Center will begin a “Lighting the Way” campaign Friday. Agencies have purchased electric candles, each with a purple flame, symbolizing the color used in the observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
“There is no cost for the candles. We are asking businesses and individuals to get them and display them in their windows throughout…
Great Idea! Beautifully Decorative Candle Holders from Scrap Wood
Turn chunky wood scraps into candle holders

When I was a little girl, my toy box held no dolls, dress-up clothes or

miniature cooking sets. Playtime meant Legos, plastic animals and — my all-time favorite — wood building blocks. I loved to build houses and barns (with a stall for every animal, of course).
Decades later, when building a “real” home, I rediscovered my love of blocks while picking through a mountain of wood scraps. I realized that many of the scraps — with a little work — could make beautiful candle holders.
Project difficulty: Medium
Cost: Less than $20
MATERIALS
- Scrap wood (I used leftover wood from support beams)
- Chop saw
- Safety goggles
- Rags
- Paste wax
- Drill (optional)
- Votive candles
- Votive candleholders
- 13/16-inch wood-boring spade bit for tapered candlesticks (optional)
- Tapered candles (optional)
DIRECTIONS
1. Using the chop saw, cut scrap wood blocks in various heights and widths. (My blocks are 6 to 10 inches high and 3 to 3½ inches thick.) Wear safety goggles!
2. With a clean, dry rag, rub paste wax onto all sides of each block.
3. With another clean rag, wipe off excess wax and let dry.
4. Place a votive candleholder and candle atop each.
Optional: Find the top center of the block and drill a hole about ¾-inch deep. Insert tapered candlestick in hole.

Finally Some Straight Talk - Everything Looks Better with Candle Holders!
Candles and Holders for the Non-Romantic
Candles aren’t the reason to re-think it, though: what you place the candle in is what it’s all about. And think “in.” You can use the usual candle holders that are really just bases to set a candle on . . . or you can step up the style and find glass candle holders that you set a candle in, like a tall glass shape. A sleek fitted bowl. Like adult versions of those tea light cups - with style!
Imagine this: next to your fabulous collection of blue Depression glass you place ten-inch cut glass candle holders. Think about it.
Or:
- In your eclectic living room (never really left college, did you?) you set three really different candle holders together. Or three identically shaped candleholders in three contrasting colors or three different styles in identical colors (because you really are trying to act grown up).
- Dining table - for the holiday centerpiece: use a beautiful footed floating candle bowl as the centerpiece. You can fill it with water and candles, or greenery, napkins, melon balls . . . .
The Versitile Votive
Votive Candle Holders
Votive candle holders are probably the most versatile style of holder you
can purchase. The small size of votives makes them ideal in any setting and placement options are limited only by the space they occupy. They are effective enough as lighting sources or you can use them as decorative pieces to accent an area. They get the origin from churches where they were used as offerings in ceremonies but their popularity has spread to restaurants, weddings and homes for their soft light, ambiance and inexpensive price and the votive candle holder is designed to maximize their burn time.
You Cant Go Wrong Giving Candle Holders as a Gift
Candle Holders Make Perfect Gifts
The candle industry is a thriving business that has no clear sign of faltering. And candle holders have always had a place beside them. Traditionally they were crafted by skilled artisans as wall sconces to hold torches. As candles grew more popular these sconces were designed to hold candles. Today
most are mass produced with standard sizes or are made with flat surfaces with prongs in the center to hold a candle in place. They’ve become a standard in gift giving for housewarmings, birthdays, weddings and Christmas. You can’t go wrong with a candle holder as a gift because even the simplest one can fit anybody’s personal style. Nearly every home has some form of candle in it and you can bet that candle is resting in a holder of some sort. They add to the attraction of candles no matter where they are placed.
Candle Holders - Plain & Simple!
Candle Holders:
Candle holders aren’t just for holding candles anymore. They’ve become exciting decorative fixtures that not only accentuate a candle but the interior décor of many homes as well. They can function as they are intended or used as an art piece entirely on their own, especially as centerpieces. You can find them in any number of styles, shapes, designs and themes. With so many varied functions of candles these days it only makes sense that candle holders would be right there alongside them in functionality and demand.
When decorating your home they can be used to complement your style when they are applied to empty spaces. Place a candle holder to create a focal point or to add the perfect accent on an area that lacks in décor. They make perfect accents for mantelpieces. They can be ornately designed or made to have the minimalist in mind.
